One doctor sent me to Quest. A physical ran through LabCorp. Another clinic used whoever was on the insurance list that year. I wanted those numbers in one place, not three logins. GoodLabs is what I kept.
Why would you care if you are not me?
You care if you have ever asked a doctor for iron, thyroid, cholesterol, or hormones, heard "you are fine," and later found the real story sitting in a lab portal you forgot existed.
Insurance covers a thin physical. ApoB, Lp(a), ferritin, a real thyroid panel, vitamin D: those often do not make the cut unless something is already wrong. So you either wait, or you pay cash, or you join a membership that sells you 160 tests whether you needed six or not.
The membership companies noticed that gap and wrapped it in a yearly bill. You get a huge panel, a pretty app, and a renewal whether you needed 160 markers or six. I do not hate them. I hate pretending I have no data until I join.
What do Quest and LabCorp have to do with this?
They are not competitors. They are where my blood has already been. I need both of them in one view because that is where the history lives.
I do not "choose" Quest or LabCorp like a sports team. Some years I got drawn at one. Some years the other. GoodLabs lets me book either, and it puts those results next to each other so I can actually use the record I already paid for. That is the whole trick. One graph of ferritin. Years, not a screenshot from the last visit.
If you only ever used one lab, you still get that lab. If you bounced around like I did, you finally stop losing the thread. How I set the first order up is on how I use GoodLabs.
How does GoodLabs actually work?
You order online. A doctor on their side writes the order. You go to a partner Quest, LabCorp, or BioReference. Or, in some cities, you donate blood and the testing can be free.
Two doors:
- Pay. No insurance. No clinic visit. Build a custom list or grab a panel. Check out. Book the location that is actually open. Results show up in the account, usually within a week. Some markers post later than others. That is normal.
- Donate. Where they partner with a blood center, extra vials come off the same needle and the labs can be $0. This is not everywhere. Check your ZIP before you plan a week around it.
The catalog is why I did not stay on a membership. I can buy a 75-biomarker comprehensive panel. I can also buy a $4 CBC, a $5 metabolic panel, a $9 ferritin, and leave. Rechecking one marker is that boring. Prices are on GoodLabs pricing.
After results post, their AI (they call it Barry) can explain a line. You can share the report with your own doctor. Useful. Still not a replacement for a human who can treat you.
What I actually checked (August 2026)
Used GoodLabs as a paying customer. Quest prices on goodlabs.com, August 25, 2026:
- Comprehensive Men's $195
- Heart Health $55
- Iron Status $60
- CBC $4
- CMP $5
- Ferritin $9
- TSH $5
- Vitamin D $14
- Free and total T $15
- 20JO took 20% off a first paid order. Last check: August 25, 2026.
- Booked a draw. Quest, LabCorp, and BioReference show up depending on ZIP.
- Brought in prior Quest and LabCorp results. New draws land next to that history.
- Function $365/year in most states. Superpower $199/year ($399 NY/NJ). Rythm about $79/month. Empirical $190 one-time. InsideTracker about $149/year plus a separate Ultimate test.
I am not a physician. I do not diagnose. I care whether I can see my own numbers and buy the next test without a yearly bill.
Who is this actually for?
People who already have lab history and people who want to buy one marker at a time. If that is not you, the memberships will feel simpler.
If you are staring at Function's $365 page, read whether that membership is worth it and GoodLabs vs Function Health.
If Rythm's at-home kit is the ad you keep seeing, that is GoodLabs vs Rythm. Different product. Finger stick versus a real draw, $79 a month versus pay when you need it.
If you train and want the markers I personally watch, that lives on this page. It is optional. This site is not an athlete club.
Why I will not join a blood-testing membership
Because I do not retest 160 biomarkers every time I get curious. I retest the ones that move. And I already have the baseline.
Function is a serious product. $365 a year, 160+ tests twice a year, clinician notes. If your job is "I have never seen these numbers and I want the whole dump," Function can win. Honest version: GoodLabs vs Function.
Superpower is cheaper at $199 for a 100+ panel, once a year. If you recheck iron or thyroid twice in the same year, that is two tests, not a membership. GoodLabs vs Superpower.
Rythm is easy. Heat pack, small sample, mail it back. $79 a month for 25+ markers. Easy is not the same as complete, and monthly is a lot of money if you only needed ferritin. GoodLabs vs Rythm Health.
If that's you, here's the move. 20JO is 20% off the first order. That's it.
Opens goodlabs.com. Code 20JO is 20% off the first paid order.
What does it cost with code 20JO?
| What I actually look at | List | First order with 20JO | Why it exists |
|---|---|---|---|
| Comprehensive Men's (75 biomarkers) | $156 | Baseline. Then stop buying the whole ocean. | |
| Comprehensive Women's (75 biomarkers) | $148 | Same idea, female hormone set. | |
| Heart Health (ApoB, Lp(a), more) | $44 | The physical that skipped ApoB. | |
| Iron Status | $48 | Fatigue, low iron, or you donate blood. | |
| CBC w/ diff | $3.20 | The $4 test insurance still makes difficult. | |
| CMP | $4 | A $5 test, not a $79 month. | |
| Ferritin | $7.20 | Mid-season. Not next year's membership. |

How does it compare to the clubs?
Function, Superpower, and Rythm sell a subscription. GoodLabs sells the test. You still get drawn at Quest or LabCorp. You just do not start from zero.
| GoodLabs | Function Health | Superpower | Rythm Health | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Model | Pay when you order | $365 / year | $199 / year ($399 NY/NJ) | $79 / month |
| How you give blood | Regular draw at Quest, LabCorp, or BioReference | Regular draw (Quest-heavy membership) | Regular draw (Quest-heavy membership) | At-home finger-stick kit |
| Old results | Quest and LabCorp history in one dashboard | Limited. You live in their membership. | Varies | Starts with the first kit |
| Retest mid-season | Buy the marker | Add-on or wait | One panel in the base fee | Another $79 month |
| Subscription | None | Required | Required | Required (you can skip or cancel) |
Head-to-heads:
- vs Function Health (the $365 dump)
- vs Rythm Health (the $79/month at-home kit)
- vs Superpower (the $199 once-a-year panel)
- vs Empirical Health
- vs InsideTracker
When should you skip GoodLabs?
Skip it if the product you want is a membership, not a test.
Donation is not everywhere. Free testing with donation is real and limited. If your city is not live, you pay. Check ZIP.
You still need a doctor for medicine. Barry explains lines. A doctor writes the order. Neither of those is "Justin will interpret your PSA." If you want a concierge clinician as the product, Function or Superpower may feel like more hand-holding.
The catalog is a lot of menus. If that freezes you, start with one comprehensive panel, then shrink. How I use it is the sequence I would give a friend.
I may earn a commission if you order through my link. Your price does not go up. Code 20JO is 20% off the first paid order. Full text on the disclosure. If that bothers you, go to goodlabs.com directly and skip the code. I would rather you get the labs.
Blunt buy/skip: is Function Health worth it, or is this cheaper?
What should the first 20 minutes look like?
Long enough to stop guessing. Not long enough to become a hobbyist.
Open GoodLabs with 20JO. Create the account. Bring in the Quest and LabCorp history you already have so you are not looking at a blank chart. Then either grab Comprehensive Men's or Women's as a baseline, or if you already have a recent full panel, buy only the gaps (ApoB, ferritin, TSH, vitamin D). Apply 20JO. Confirm 20% on the first paid order. Book the location you can actually get to this week.
One code. One dashboard. The next test when you need it. Not a club.
Best for
People who already have lab history at Quest or LabCorp, who want those numbers in one view, and who want to buy the next test without a yearly membership.
Avoid if
People who want a twice-a-year 160-test dump, a monthly finger-prick kit, or a care team as the product. Function, Superpower, or Rythm may fit that better.
